From Fat To Fit: First Day

Starting a new life is not easy.

Starting a new life that involves sports, eating right and watching your intake, dedication and hard work in the gym, and proper sleep... opposed to, say, being on the computer 24/7, eating whatever you desire without any guilt, and always making up excuses to sell your friends out to play basketball or go to the gym.

Well, that's definitely not easy either; colossally overwhelming to the average chubby Joe.

With that being said, how exactly do you start living the new life?

Savor and disgust yourself with every moment of your old habits the night before; Dive bomb into the new lifestyle the very next morning.

It may sound simple, but as in the world of diet and exercise, it’s always easier said than done.

Remember, this is your lifestyle, that you are changing, not the latest fad diet for 8 weeks.

Your changing your life, you’re not on a diet.

Hoping that I drove the point home, the reason many people fail when they try and make such a change, is because deep down inside their mind, they still believe that their new lifestyle is temporary.

A lifestyle change is a lifestyle change, no ifs and buts about it. That being said, you need to find ways to mentally prepare yourself to make this change. It’s easy enough to wake up and think to yourself today is a new life, but temporarily thinking that and feeling that deep down inside your gut... two very different scenarios.

There are a few tricks and thinking patterns you can perform in order to really get you ready for a new beginning. Before I say this, always keep in mind that every person is different, even more so when it comes to things that motivate them. This is a huge topic I like to explore when I'm trying to get motivated for something.

The night before your new lifestyle, just cycle through all the things that make you want to hit the gym and “fix” or “better” yourself.

Some examples: Ex-partner, pain, heartbreak, embarrassment in the past, being bullied by others.

You can use negative feelings or energy to fuel you, and at first, it works wonders. However, a word of advice, and this is the positive psychologist in me speaking, at some point in your life always let go of any negative pains in your life. It’s great that you may use it for fuel to accomplish something great, but if you never let go… you may be 6 pack abs and picking up chicks, but if you’re still harbor hate-love for an ex-girlfriend, chances are, you’re still going to not be honestly happy with yourself.

That being said, I am a optimist, and I prefer to be the strong courageous good guy as opposed to the super bad a*% Villain. A villain, or somebody who dwells on a tragic thought or experience, will always be susceptible to demise.

Find your fuel.
