Make A Positive Change To Your Diet

Make A Positive Change to Your Diet

If you are overweight and want to slim down there are a number of changes that you need to consider making. Your weight has increased because you have either consumed too much food or not taken enough exercise. So these are the areas you need to address.

You need to look at the food you eat and try to make positive changes to your diet. You will obviously need to cut out some of your normal foods completely. All processed foods are generally high in calories and most fizzy drinks contain huge amounts of sugar and these should be avoided altogether if possible.

Ideally you need to select foods that will help you to lose weight. There are foods that are natural fat burners that will help you to begin removing some of your existing fat. There are also foods that are classed as hunger suppressants that will help you to control your appetite and thereby control your calorie intake. If you are able to reduce your calorie intake you will lose weight.

There are also foods that are classed as having a negative calorie content.

By recognising each of these types of foods and making them part of your regular diet will put you well on the road towards losing weight.

Natural Fat Burners

There are numerous foods that are classed as natural fat burners. These include a variety of citrus fruits such as tangerines, oranges and grapefruits. All of these are high in vitamin C and the acidity of the fruit basically cuts through the fat preventing it from being retained in the body. Kiwi fruit and tomatoes are also excellent fat burners. Fresh berries such as raspberries and blackberries will also burn away fat.

Vegetables that can be classed as fat burners include cucumber, onion, carrots and asparagus.

Hunger suppressants

Foods that are classed as hunger suppressants are generally those that contain relatively few calories but are bulky. Leaf vegetables such as cabbage and broccoli are excellent examples of this type of food. You can eat large portions of these foods but your actual calorie intake will still be low.

Negative calorie foods

Some people find the concept of negative calorie foods difficult to understand. It is however extremely simple. Certain foods such as cabbage, cauliflower, celery and spinach contain relatively few calories. The physical action of eating (chewing and swallowing etc) burns up a certain number of calories. When you eat certain types of food the number of calories burned up when you eat exceeds the number of calories being consumed. Hence the term negative calorie.

To give an example of this if you consume a stick of celery that contains 50 calories but the action of eating that piece of celery requires 75 calories you have effectively burned up 25 calories.

As you will notice a number of the foods mentioned fall into more than one category which makes them ideal choices for inclusion into your diet.

If you think carefully about the foods you eat it is possible to eat well and not feel hungry. Choosing the correct types of food which allow you to have reasonable sized portions without having a large calorie content is a far better option than simply trying to cut down on your food intake.
