Remedies to reduce Constipation

Constipation means that your bowel movements are hard and happens less often than normal. Most people have experienced it at some point in life. 1. Eat food rich in fiber

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains will aid the digestive system work properly. This will also greatly enhance your diet and your general health. These should comprise of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, assorted nuts, different kinds of berries.

2. Drink plenty of water

It is recommended that you drink eight glasses of water everyday, drink more if you can, to keep your body hydrated. Lack of enough liquid in the poo makes it hard for you to move your bowel. So drink plenty of water and other fluids every day, don’t wait to be thirty for you to drink water.

3. Take castor oil

This is a natural home remedy for constipation that has been used for ages as a laxative (substance s that loosen stools and increase bowel movements, used to treat and prevent constipation). It is recommended to take on an empty stomach, it is very effective. It is not good tasting, therefore it is important to get a way of taking it.

4. Exercise

Lack of physical activities often leads to constipation. Therefore, including exercises in your daily routine may raise the muscular contractions of the digestive system, hence aiding in your bowel movements. Lack of physical activities is consideration to be one of the main reasons constipation is frequent in older individuals.

5. Eat ripe yellow bananas

This works best for mild constipation; they are a great source of fiber they act as a natural mild laxative.

6. Baking soda

Among its many uses, baking soda is good for your gut. Being bicarbonate it assists air to get out of your body in all ways possible thus helping in relieving some of the aches and discomfort caused by constipation.

Note: baking soda is high in salt, thus can cause high blood pressure, heart diseases and kidney related problems. Therefore caution should be taken when using it.

7. Avoid/Don't hold it in

If your have an urge to go to the toilet, by all means, just go. The more you try to hold it in, the more water is sucked up from the stool making it even harder. Again, your body only alerts you to move your bowel at a specific time and only for a limited period. If you wait/postpone going to the toilet, chances are that your stool will get even more sticky or clogged up and bring discomfort.
