This would be considered any types of foods that are high in calories and low in nutritional value. You will also want to avoid sugary drinks like soda, and cut out any alcohol from your diet. Sugar makes you crave more sugar and fat, and will also work to raise your blood sugar levels. When you drink alcohol, your body tries to eliminate it first, and will store the extra calories as fat. Drinking alcohol when you are trying to burn belly fat can be very counterproductive.

Your next step will be to start eating healthy fat burning foods. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains should dominate your shopping list. Fresh fruits and vegetables are high in fiber and packed with vitamins and minerals that actually feed your body. Whole grains are great for you because they are filling. Include some whole grain breads and cereals into your diet. Also choose lean proteins, and healthy fats. Lean proteins include fish, chicken, turkey, beans, and tofu. Examples of healthy fats can be found in foods like olive oil, nuts, seeds, and salmon. Diets rich in fiber are fat burning foods that are good for working towards a flat stomach.

Drink lots of water. Water is excellent for cleansing the body and keeping you hydrated. One common dieting mistake is when you might think you are hungry when you are really thirsty. The next time you are feeling like you want a snack, drink a large of water first. It might just be what your body needed. Exercise is another critical part of burning that belly fat. Most people would think that you have to do a lot of crunches to get a flat stomach, and while crunches help to strengthen the abdominal muscles, they don't really burn the fat.

What you can do to flatten your stomach is to start doing cardiovascular exercises like jogging, swimming, or biking. The key is to elevate your heart rate for extended periods of time. I generally do cardio sessions of 50 minutes or more five times a week. It burns fat all over my body, and when I combine those workouts with exercises like pilates that strengthen the core, I have a winning combination for a slimmer midsection. If you do cardiovascular exercise at least 40 minutes a day, four days a week, you will start to burn belly fat. To amp up your workouts, add some form of resistance training at least two to three times a week.

Getting proper rest is important for keeping yourself on track with your diet and exercise program, and with your day. Studies show that you should be getting at least eight hours of sleep every night. It is also important to be able to manage stress. If you can manage stress effectively, you can make better decisions about diet and exercise. Effective stress management tools include meditation, exercise, and deep breathing and visualization techniques. It also helps to have a good social support system to talk out your problems.

The key to success is doing what works, and simply repeating your actions. Weight loss is no different in that it takes work and commitment.
