Summer is coming and with it comes the joy of great weather, vacations, and swimming in the pool. Unfortunately this all means that other people will see you in a swim suit, and if you're anything like me you won't want that, especially after the tough winter months. Generally this time of year is when everyone is doing their best to start trimming down. So how can you ensure that you hit your new years resolution and properly trim down for the summer? The first thing you should do before you worry about any kind of diet or workout program is decide exactly what you want. Do you want to lose a specific amount of weight? Fit into a certain size? Have a specific sized waist? These are important questions to ask yourself; after all if you don't know where you are going how will you ever get there? Choose what your goal is and make sure that measure your progress at least every week, this will keep your motivation and spirits high as you get closer to completing your goals.

The next thing you will want to do is cut down on the amount of calories that you are eating. Eating more claories than you burn causes your body to gain weight, eating less calories causes you to lose weight, it's really that simple. So what does that mean? It means that if you want to lose weight and fit into that swim suit you've been dreaming about you will need to eat less calories. There are a lot of easy ways to do this, cut down on most carbs since they hold a lot of calories and focus on low calorie foods such as vegetables. By keeping track of these calories you will set yourself up for hitting whatever your goals are.

The next part of the equation is exercise. This will change depending on your goals, I generally recommend a combination of both weight lifting and cardio. Weight lifting will build up your muscles which will speed up your metabolism while cardio will help you burn calories helping you lose weight quicker. The combination of these two together make hitting goals extremely easy.

That's really all you need to have the body of your dreams! The last and most important thing to keep in mind is that results take time. You're not going to have a body like Garret Fisher or Brandon Swan overnight. These big time athletes followed the above steps and stuck to their goals for a long time, this is what allows them to perform at such a high level. Just think, if you get started now you'll have some great results not just this summer but many of the summers to come!
