S. population in 1998 to 25.1% in 2006, which suggests that the increased prevalence of obesity is driving increases in total medical spending."

A recent paper entitled "Annual Medical Spending Attributable To Obesity: Payer and Service-Specific Estimates," written by Eric A. Finkelstein, Justin G. Trogdon, Joel W.
