Sensa was developed by a doctor to cause taste and smell stimulation. The theory is that by using “tastants” to fool your sense of smell and taste, you will eat less. If you eat less, then you will obviously lose some weight. The Sensa website states that all you have to do is sprinkle some of their product on your favorite foods and your cravings to eat more will subside. According to this site you can lose up to thirty pounds by just covering your food with Sensa.
What is in Sensa?
What's the truth? First Sena is not really a diet. You put the product on your meals just like you would salt. The ingredients are tricalcium phosphate, maltodextrin, silica and other flavors. There is nothing unusual or special about these ingredients. The company does have a pretty good variety of flavors, everything from cheddar cheese to onion to ranch dressing. Their main claim is that these flavors will trick your brain into thinking that you have eaten enough and your stomach is full.
The product costs about $60.00 a month, which might be a little high for some. However, there is a 6 month kit which they sell for $235.00.
It’s also important to note that while there has been clinical studies, there has been no clinical trials. While most people probably wouldn’t pick up on this, there is a big difference. Clinical trials are much more rigorous and have higher standards. There has been nothing published in peer reviewed journals either, which raises red flags for many.
Most experts feel that much more study is needed to confirm the validity of the link between smell, taste and direct weight loss.
I’ve seen the commercials for Sensa all over the place and have to say that they are very convincing. The ability of advertising firms to promote an idea and sell it is truly amazing. That is the problem with many weight loss claims. There is a lot of hype, flash and celebrity, but when you get down to brass tacks and do some real investigating, the actual proof for many weight loss products is usually pretty slim.
