How To Do A Diet The Skinny Mind Way

The first thing you need to realize is that we all have a diet; a diet is simply the sum total of everything we eat, so it’s not intrinsically a bad thing ‘to be on a diet.’ However, I bet you have all kinds of feelings and judgments that come up in your mind when you think of ‘going on a diet,’ don’t you? A Skinny Mind diet has only one rule: there cannot be any rules. There are only decisions…and you get to make the decisions. The most important thing is to pick your mind up to a bigger place. Stop focusing so much on how much you should weigh, what you can eat, how much you can eat, what time of day should you eat, etc., etc., etc.

Instead, think about ideas, meditate or pray, call a friend, learn something new, make a list of all the good things that happened to you today, envision your ideal life in five years—not just your ideal weight but everything about your life. Doesn’t that feel better than thinking about how many calories you consumed already today and how deprived you feel?

Here are some tips on how to do a diet the Skinny Mind way:

  • Enjoy your food, look at it, taste it, have an experience with it.
  • Eat slowly – did you know it takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that it is full? How much extra do you usually eat in that 20 minutes?
  • When you want to eat, ask yourself if you are really hungry.
  • If your answer is yes, ask yourself if food is really what you are hungry for? Would it be better to feed your mind or your heart or your spirit instead?
  • Don’t try to time your eating to a clock. Eat when you want to—just remember to ask yourself what you are really hungry for.
  • The world is full of a huge variety of food and other good things; you get to create the diet you want…and you get to change it every day if you want.
  • Spend a few minutes, at least two times every day, closing your eyes and actually seeing yourself skinny.
  • Once each day, tell one other person one thing that you are thankful for (it’s even better if it’s something you are thankful for about them).
  • When you feel hungry, smile (or even laugh!)…then decide what to do next.
