I am sure that you all have heard and know how important it is to life a healthy lifestyle. Health and fitness is not about dieting and losing weight. It is about getting rid of bad habits, and about giving your body what it needs to function properly.

Changing your lifestyle can be difficult in the beginning, because it can take a while for us to readjust to whole new way of living. We all know how hard it can be to break bad habits, but we also know that it is far from impossible. We doubt, because we fear. It might be change you fear, or you might feel that you might not succeed. It's perfectly normal to feel this way. What you need to do is replace every negative thought that comes to mind with a positive one. If you believe you can, you can achieve anything.

When it comes to your diet, start simple. Replace one thing that's bad for you with one that's healthier. For example if you love chocolate, you don't have to give it up. Just replace the unhealthy kind (milk chocolate) with dark chocolate (it has to contain 80% cocoa or higher to be considered a healthy choice). Or if you absolutely need sweetener in your tea, cut out the sugar and use honey instead. Replace dairy products, with low-fat dairy products. Replace simple carbs, like regular white bread, pasta and rice, with whole wheat products. Replace regular white potatoes with sweet potatoes, fatty meats with lean meats, potato chips with popcorn (unbuttered and not salted), nuts or berries. Eat more fish, and lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. And cut out all the sugary drinks, and start drinking fresh, cold water. I could go on forever. Start to eat clean now.

Next, get up and exercise. Our body's are made to be in physical activity and to work. I know how hard it can be to find time and the energy to exercise when we live hectic lives. But physical activity can actually help us recharge and give us that extra energy we need. Most importantly, try to find an activity you enjoy. Doesn't matter if it's Zumba, jogging, yoga etc. The point is, if you find something you like, the chances are that you will stick to it, and you will actually have fun. All you need is a 30 minute workout 3-5 times a week to stay in shape. Keep in mind that it is important get in some cardio and strength training.
