Keep Weight Off: The Running Lifestyle

A problem many people have with losing weight is that they are good at losing the weight, but they are not good at keeping it off. They will start some regiment, do really well at it, but then back off when they are near or at their goal. Well, people who take up running often make it a part of their life and keep weight off in addition to continue their healthy lifestyle.

With running, it is not all about watching your weight and what you eat. Although those are both vitally important, but with the proper running routine, you will be able to lose weight from eating the same caloric amount (what you eat will probably change). Paradoxically, eating the proper amount of food for a runner may at times involve eating more than what you normally would (however, that goes more for the advanced runner putting up higher mileage: running long distance requires a lot of fuel!). Nevertheless, what you eat is vitally important. You will need to eat more foods higher in carbohydrates, and meats that are much leaner than what you are probably used to. Although this can constitute a "diet" it does not mean you should drastically change your diet to one of the latest fads. You should continue eating on a runner's diet as it is healthy, even if you are not running.

The most impressive part about running is how the lifestyle facilitates one from gaining weight, ever. If you continue to run, you will probably continue becoming a more advanced running. When you become an advanced runner, you will probably run longer and faster distances. Which probably means that you will continually be losing weight for a long time - without that being your main concern about why you run anymore. Pretty cool! Once you start hitting the road race circuit (5Ks and 10Ks, for example), you will find it quite an addicting rush, and you will strive for more. A have never heard of a runner "being in shape". There will always be improvement.

While you can go about your time by losing weight by various methods, think of the long term. Do you want to do something that will get your weight off temporarily, or do you want to engage in an activity in which you will keep your weight off for good?
