Low Fat Candies

If you're trying to eat low fat foods, one of the best snacks around is hard candy. Most hard candy contains no fat due to the manufacturing process. This type of candy is created by heating sugar and water at extremely high temperatures. Adding fat to the mixture would change the texture of the candy.

While it's not a good idea to eat too much hard candy, eating some in moderation is acceptable. It's always important when eating sugary snacks to make sure to floss your teeth afterwards to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems. If you're watching your carbohydrate counts, you can find some hard candies made with sugar substitutes.

Low Fat Snack Favorites

One of my favorite low fat desserts is Jolly Ranchers hard candy. There are a number of different flavors to choose from. I like these snacks because they leave me feeling satisfied without feeling full. I try not to eat more than a few at a time, which is usually quite easy to do. I also enjoy peppermint candies and Lifesavers. While I don't suggest eating these snacks every day, I do think they help to curb that sense of deprivation that many of us feel when we are sticking to restrictive diets.

The key to avoiding weight gain with low fat candies is moderation. Just because you've found a low fat alternative to your favorite foods doesn't give you a free pass to eat more than the serving suggestion. If I am eating snacks like rice cakes, pretzels or fat free potato chips I try to separate the serving size into sandwich bags. Doing so helps to ensure that I don't get carried away with mindless snacking.
