If you're like me, weight management has been a lifelong obsession. While the word "obsession" has negative connotations, the truth is the way we look affects the way we live. I know when I have my weight under control, I feel like my whole life is under control. For me, weight management is so much more than being thin, it's a healthy way of eating and exercising for the rest of my life.

Before you begin any weight loss program, it's a good idea to sit down and set some realistic goals. If you weren't born with super model genetics, you probably don't stand a chance at maintaining that kind of a figure for long. Rather than setting yourself up for disappointment, why not set a realistic goal weight that you can maintain for the rest of your life? I know when I finally started thinking realistically about my body type, I was able to feel more comfortable with my figure.

Getting in Shape

There are no miracle cures for permanent weight loss, but there are plenty of things you can do to ensure you lose weight quickly and keep it off for good. One of the most important things you can do is to make a commitment to working out at least three times a week. Many health experts suggest working out at least one half hour every day. Other experts suggest you walk at least three miles every day. Some weight loss plans suggest you walk 10,000 steps per day.

No matter what you do for exercise, it's important to notice how your body feels. Rather than pushing yourself too hard, and getting burnt out in just a couple of weeks it's better to exercise in moderation. If you want to keep it interesting it's a good idea to do a number of different activities like walking, jogging, swimming, and cross training. You can even workout with a friend or participate in sports like tennis, volleyball, or basketball.
