For years I thought people who were naturally thin had it made. They simply ate whatever they wanted, and maintained their weight without doing anything. The truth is, more often than not, naturally thin people have naturally thin minds. Have you ever noticed how your thin friend can eat rich foods without gaining weight? The main reason for this is that she simply knows when to stop eating. While this may be impossible or extremely difficult for some of us to do, we can start out by discovering portion control.

When you eat smaller amounts of food more often, you raise your metabolism naturally. The trick is to eat foods that are low in fat, and healthy, and to stop eating when you feel full. I have tried just about every diet on the market, including Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Phen-Fen and even over-the-counter appetite suppressants, but I always gained the weight back. For me, the main problem was finding a new way to eat, and sticking with it for life. While it is important to find something that works for you for the rest of your life, it's also important to eat well-balanced and healthy meals and snacks.

The Battle of the Bulge

If you're like me, you have to face a constant battle against your genes. Many of my family members are overweight, and they have been all of their lives. If you want to put an end to this constant struggle, you need to find new ways of eating. One of the best ways to do so, is to find low-fat, low-carbohydrate options that work for you. I know the two most difficult things for me to go without are high fat foods and foods that are high in sugar. Thanks to sugar substitutes and fat alternatives, you can find options that are healthier for both.

Many people invest in cookbooks and sign up for diet plans hoping to find some sort of miracle cure for permanent weight loss. The truth is, there are no miracles. The only thing that really works is controlling what you eat and when you eat. One thing I have always appreciated about naturally thin people is their ability to control themselves with food. If you don't yet feel like you have this level of control, you need to find snacks and desserts that leave you feeling satisfied and full without containing too many calories, fat grams or carbohydrates.
