Low Carb Diet Foods

If you're trying to lose weight using one of the many low carbohydrate diet programs on the market today, you might want to check out the low carb diet foods available. Some of the major candy makers have jumped on board the low carb craze. You can find chocolate bars that feature less carbs than traditional bars. Most of these bars are smaller than traditional candy bars, and they often contain sugar substitutes.

One of the most popular snack items these days is beef and turkey that has been dried and processed in the form of sticks and jerky. You can even find salmon jerky and flavored hot and teriyaki varieties of jerky. These snacks are often high in sodium, and usually contain more fat than some other snack options.

Making the Carbs Count

One thing to look for in low carb snacks is fiber. Fiber is one of the more soluble ingredients, and is easily digested by the body. Some nutritional experts say you can actually subtract the amount of fiber grams from the total carbohydrate grams to determine the "usable carbs" in your foods. If you're counting carbs in your diet, it's important to still eat somewhere between 50 and 100 grams of carbs a day.

Depending on how much weight you want or need to lose, you should decrease the number of carbs in your diet to increase weight loss. Falling below 50 grams of carbs per day is a recipe for future weight gain. I know from personal experience how quickly the weight can come back when you start eating regular meals again. For many people the only way to keep the weight off is to commit to living a lower carb lifestyle. Thankfully there are plenty of low carb treats that make this easy to do.
