Is Your State Fat and Lazy? Well, Yes

New obesity stats are in, and the results are about as optimistic as a 2012 doomsday nut.

Just 5 years ago, Missisippi was the only state where more than 3 in 10 people were obese. Now, 12 states break 30-plus percent obesity rates. Not one state's rate decreased compared with the previous year, according to the government data.

How bad is it? Colorado—currently the slimmest state with a 19.8 percent obese population—would have been the most obese state in the country in 1995.

And the stats may be even more grim than they seem. Since the data is based on self-reported numbers, people are likely heavier than they admitted.

Coincidentally, the stats were released around the same time we published the Most and Least Active Cities in America. How do they compare? Take a look at the map below to see who's lazy, who's fat, and who really needs to join our Fit for Life Summer Challenge.
