How Green Tea Can Help You Lose Weight

Green tea has been used by the chinese for thousands of years. Its popularity has since spread throughout the world, and green tea is now consumed and enjoyed around the globe. Now you might be asking, how in the world can green tea make you lose weight? It basically works like this:

  1. An antioxidant named ECGC stimulates and accelerates the metabolism by roughly 4%. This means that 4% more fat is released into the blood stream where the body can use it as fuel.
  2. Another antioxidant called polyphenols helps to dissolve triglycerides. Triglycerides is formed by the fat and sugar you eat, and when its levels get too high, it is transformed into fat. Fat that is stored in your body. The polyphenols will prevent this fat from forming.
  3. The third way green tea helps in weight loss is harder to explain in a few sentences. But it basically improves your endurance. And improved endurance means that you will be able to exercise for longer periods of time without becoming exhausted. As we all know, exercise burns calories. So more exercise means more calories burned.

Finally a word of caution. Green tea contains caffeine (just like coffee does), and caffeine is a stimulant that increases heart rate and raises your alertness. This means that if you drink lots of tea or coffee right before going to bed, you might have trouble falling asleep. Sleep deprivation is not healthy at all and that's why you should be careful with tea consumption late at night.
