Lentils are a staple part of Indian cuisine. They are cooked alongside spices such as garlic, cumin and garam masala.  But did you know that they are an excellent choice of food if you are trying to lose weight?  Foods low in glycemic index helps in the weight loss process because they cause less fluctuations in blood sugar levels. They are full of fibre and are a useful part of weight loss diet as the high fibre content in them can make you feel fuller for longer. Being low in fat, they don’t pack a lot of calories. One cup of lentils contains abou 230 calories and still leaves you feeling full and satisfied for a long time. They are also rich in complex carbohydrates, a nutrient that boosts the metabolism and helps the body to burn fat.

The good news is lentils are easily available and very convenient to prepare. You can also add them to almost any dish including stews, burgers and salads to help you feel full for longer and to assist in reducing cravings and overeating.
