Taking off some weight

Question
I am a 36 year old female who wieghs 134lbs. I started gaining wieght about a year maybe a year and a half ago. I figure its about age. Before I was btwn 119-125lbs witha waist size of around 25-28. I don't really eat an awful lot mostly junk like little debbie cakes and chips. Not big on hamburgers or fried food although I do have some once in a while. Don't do fast food at all. I drink more than anything. Ice tea, lemonade and I love my juice.

I have been holding at 134lbs for a while now but I in this weight gain I have acquired a larger mid section. I am now a size 34 upperwaist, 33 midwaist and 34 1/2 lower waist. I have recently started sit ups and started having smaller helpings and sometimes not really eating but one meal a day and that would be a salad and maybe a sandwich with 2 slices of ham and bread with nothing on it. I eat a lot of yogurt and apple sauce. Cutt out all the icecream and cakes. Since doing this I have lost an inch of all the above mentioned areas which put me at those numbers. I also do aerobics two or three times every two weeks or so.

Here is my problem, how can I get rid of the lower abdominal area, It doesn't seem to be going down like the other areas. It always seems bloated whether I eat or not. Is there any thing I can do to get rid of my stomach only. I don't mind the extra I got at my hips ( now I have some) and I don't want to get rid of the extra I gaind in the chest area either. This is why I don't do aerobics too often. I want to target just my stomach. Help!

Answer
Hi,

Unfortunately you can't spot reduce in only the areas you want.  You have a apple shape or some may call it an endomorph shape.  You gain your weight primarily in your upper body.  If you want to lose weight in your lower abdominal area you have to do total body exercise.  I recommend that you engage in aerobics and some form of resistance training at least 5 days a week.  Exercise for at least 40 minutes.  Keep in mind that juice, lemonade, and regular ice tea can stack up in calories.  I highly recommending reducing the juices and consuming fruit instead.

You are doing right by removing high sugary foods from your diet.  Try to consume more vegetables and fruits, and lean proteins like fish, chicken, beans, legumes, etc.  I want to emphasize doing aerobics more than twice every two weeks try to increase it 3 - 5 times weekly.

Best Regards,

Helen
