Question
hello, my name is Shaina and i am an over weight teen. I am 15, weigh 173lbs, and am 5 foot 1. Right now i am on the south beach diet but i cant help but cheat. I mean im a teenager, teenagers dont eat that kind of stuff. I actually like fruit and vegetables but not that much. Also on this diet i never feel satisfied. I know i have to lose weight because i have had many stomach problems. So i was wondering if you could help me.

Answer
Dear Shaina, the South Beach diet is too rigid for a growing teen, yes you are still growing and maturing. Stick to a eating plan that has between 1400-1800 calories in a day. You will have to write everything down that you eat, and figure out the calorie count by reading labels, or by looking in a calorie book. Next, to lose weight and still eat a good amount of food, you have to walk everyday for at least 30 minutes. Losing weight takes motivation to produce the change needed, so don't start till you are ready. If you don't think you can do it on your own, see your doctor who can refer you to a dietician who will then figure the calories for you. Good Luck, Laura kraemer,Slimkids.com
