grams of sugar

Question
Hi. I was wondering how many grams of sugar are people allowed per day?

Answer
Hi Danielle,

Guidelines for sugar intake are based on the total amount of calories consumed. No more than 10% of your total calories should come from sugar. So, if you eat about 2000 calories per day (roughly an average amount for a woman in their 20's to 50's), it would be recommended that you eat no more than 50 g of sugar (and a total of 275 g per day of carbohydrates, the remaining 225 g should come from complex carbohydrates).

Hope that helps!

Karen
