Crash Dieting

Question
Could you please tell me the dangers of crash dieting? How does this process harm the body?

Answer
Casey,
Crash dieting can be dangerous in many ways!  First of all it is unhealthy because you are depriving the body of essential nutrients and energy to fuel itself!  Second you are starving the body, which means you will slow your metabolism down or your body's ability to burn calories.  Thirdly, you lose basically muscle and NOT stored fat.  Losing muscle means again that you slow down your body's ability to burn calories because it is your muscle mass that burns calories in your body.  It is very unhealthy and most weight that you lose you will only gain right back after you begin to eat normally again.  You learn nothing from "crash dieting".  Weight loss needs to be a lifestyle change and a learning process.  It is something that takes time and there is NO quick fix for long lasting and healthy weight loss!!
