Shoulder pain

Question
Hello George,

My husband has recently started back to the gym after a long hiatis (all winter).  He has been going for about 1 month and also has been dieting for at least 2 months.  He says that he is eating healthy foods, such as chicken, salmon, salad, fruit, but I am not sure if he is getting everything he needs in the way of vitamins.  Recently he is complaining that his shoulder is hurting him when he lifts it.  Could this be caused by lack of a particular vitamin in his diet.  Also he has been using the sauna or steam room everyday.  And he has not been drinking enough water.

Thank you for any advise that you can give.
Kimberly

Answer
Hello Kimberly,

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Usually most pain during exercise is the result of over exertion of muscles.  He may want to have it checked out by his doctor to see whether it is some type of pulled muscle.  In addition, he can also try taking a supplement called Juice Plus which contains the nutrients of 17 fruits and vegetables. Many of my patients have seen great success using Juice Plus while they are working out.  The website to purchase it at is http://www.juiceblend.com  Let me know if you have any questions about it.
