supplements during pregnancy

Question
Hi,

I am planning on becoming pregnant soon. In addition to a prenatal vitamin, I plan on taking the following supplements: Fish oil (not cod liver) and flax seed oil- for omegas and DHA- brain support; choline (500mg)- brain again, and vitamin B12.

What do thinkof this regime? Any advice on dosage?

Thank you!

Answer
Gina,
You should NOT take any supplements without speaking with your OB/GYN first.  Some vitamins can be detrimental when in high doses during pregnancy.  In addition some fish oil could contain high levels of mercury, which can be dangerous during pregnancy.  I suggest you let your physician know what supplements you plan on taking or are thinking about and let him/her talk to you about dosage, safety, etc...
