Weight-loss dieting:

Question
Howdy!
I live in America and am 150. My proper weight is around 115. I want to lose the baby fat from when I had my son this time last year.
I thought about two smoothies/day as meal replacement, knowimg about calorie counting and reduction is the key along with exercise, and the third meal is kind of big but sensible. Trying to keep the cals no more than 1500.

I was wondering, what do you advise?
1. What I was talking about.
2. 6 small meals/day
3. 3 large but tiny snacks in between, like veggies or fruits.

Not only am I looking to lose weight, but to try to have the fast metab I used to have until I turned 22 (I'm now 28). I used to not gain weight at all! I'd would be a little underweight.

Also, how you feel about Carb Smart vitamins by One A Day? What is the equivelent of a small meal? A saucer of food, or a bowlfull?

Thanks a bunch :-),
Teenianne

Answer
I advise eating all food and just watching what types of foods you eat and your portion sizes.  Six small meals a day is a good meal plan with 3 sensible meals and 3 healthy snacks inbetween.  Without knowing specifics I cannot estimate your calorie needs but around 1400-1500 is probably a good bet.  Keep in mind that you want to lose weight in a way you can stick with!!  Doing meal replacements is only going to last so long because you will get tired of them.  It is better to eat the way you are going to eat for the rest of your life but just cut back on portion sizes.  That means eating from ALL of the food groups each day.  Don't forget water too!  You should get 64 ounces daily.  Regular exercise is also an extremely important part of weight loss and weight maintenance.
As we get older our metabolism slows down.  There is not a whole lot you can do about that except to exercise and watch your intake.  At almost 30 you can't have the same metabolism you had at 20.  Things change so you need to change what YOU do including how you eat and how physically active you are.
Carb Smart vitamins will NOT help you out with weight loss.  You should be taking a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement but don't get caught up in the carb-hype.  They will charge you extra for the product and it will NOT help you lose weight.  You need to learn portion sizes to know what a "small" meal is but a good rule of thumb is to eat until you are comfortable and not full or stuffed.  That will tell you if you are eating the right portions.
