Question
What are the best ingredients for a cereal to give growing boys and girls the best nutrition. I don't know what are the recommended daily requirements, but I don't think sugar, marshmallows, etc. are among the best nutrients for a breakfast cereal to contain.  Evidently the American Medical Association or some group has recommended levels, as I keep hearing that Brand Z has ___% of the recommended daily requirements.

Answer
Basically any cereal that does not have a TON of sugar in it is good for kids. Many children are very active (playing, etc) and do not need to worry about excessive caloric intake per se, but too much sugar intake can cause a child to be hyperactive and may cause weight gain. Healthy cereals are Life, cheerios, anything that is whole grain, has a lot of fiber. Newer, but more expensive cereals that may be healthier are those made by Kashi. Oatmeal is always great. It comes in many different flavors to fit your child's taste-buds, yet it is very healthy for you. I would steer clear of cereals like cinnamon toast crunch, chocolatey cereals, fruity pebbles, and other cereals that you can just tell by the name that it is packed full of sugar!! Incorporate other foods into a child's breakfast as well though, not just cereal (i.e. fruits, yogurt)
