Question

Answer -
Steve,

I believe you are lying and what you are doing is immoral and probably illegal.

Todd

Todd,
It is unfortunate that you choose to beleive that way without at least
first looking at the evidence.
Jumping to conclusions, without any facts, has never proven anything.
I personally feel an open mind is a valuable asset in discovering what
truth is really all about.
Should you change you mind and care to review the information please
let me know.  These products are backed by Nobel Prize winning science,
patented production technology, over 80 clinical trials, and more personal testimonials than you could listen to in an evening.
I would welcome your professional review of our company.  You have my email address and personal phone # should you like to look closer.

With all Respect
Thank you,

Steve Huesemann

Answer
Mr. Huesemann,

I thoroughly reviewed your website and all the 揷linical trials?that are given in support.  First of all, you state that your products are backed by 搊ver 80 clinical trials?  You have 16 links on your 揅linical Trial?page.  I would guess that you would put your 16 best and most powerful clinical trials on your website.  The definition of a clinical trial is 揂 scientific study to determine the safety and effectiveness of a new treatment. New treatments are tested on people only after they are found to be safe and effective in both test tube and animal studies. Carefully conducted clinical trials are the preferred way to evaluate new treatments.? Only 5 of your best and most powerful 16 studies were actually clinical trials.  Five studies were unpublished data that were not submitted to peer-reviewed journals.  Three of the studies were not on the safety or effectiveness of a new treatment; one was on low-chromium diets in rats, one 搘as undertaken to develop an assay for biologically active chromium suitable for determining the best form of chromium for human supplementation studies? and one was on 搕he effect of plant extracts on D-glucose uptake by Ehrlich ascot tumour cells?

One study was listed twice (揅hromium supplements may be beneficial for diabetics?and 揅hromium May Reduce Diabetes Risk? and two of the links were broken.

Some preliminary studies have shown a possible benefit of chromium picolinate supplements in diabetics, but other studies have shown no benefit.  One study on Chinese men showed a possible benefit, but Chinese men, even diabetics, are less likely to be obese than American men.  Also, their chromium levels were not evaluated at the start of the study.  Clinical trials in the U.S. involving people with diabetes have so far produced no clear evidence of benefits from chromium supplements.

None of these studies actually tested your products.  None of these studies lasted longer than six-months, so long-term safety and effectiveness could not be established.  None of these studies looked at 揾ard end points??such as; does one treatment reduce the number of heart attacks, strokes, blindness, kidney failure, amputations, or death in diabetics compared to another treatment.

Next, the Nobel Prize winning science that is touted is: 揑n 1999, Dr. Gunter Blobel was awarded a Nobel Prize for his research when he discovered the exact mechanisms of how nutrients are transported into the cells of our bodies.? Nifty science, but it does not answer the question as to weather your products will reduce the chances of a diabetic dying from a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, etc.

In my opinion, you are selling vitamins and minerals that have no significant clinically beneficial evidence.  Your ads are misleading and some of your statements make downright false inferences.  You hide behind 搕estimonials?because you lack clinical evidence and you cannot lawfully claim what is stated in the 搕estimonials?

You are all that is wrong with the nutritional supplement industry in this country.  Some day your tactics will lose their legal protection.

For the rest of you reading this:
Vitamins and herbs are unregulated in the U.S. so a manufacturer can and will say almost anything to get you to buy their products. The health claims made can be misleading or downright false.  A nutritional supplement does not have to be proven safe or effective to be sold in the U.S. and the FDA must prove that a nutritional supplement is dangerous before it can be pulled from the market.

Buyer beware.

Todd
