Malnutrition...concerned

Question
Hi, I am an 18 year old female and I know that I am not as healthy as I should be and am very concerned about how it will affect me in the future.
1)I don't like milk and maybe once a week will manage to get one glass down. I know I don't get the calcium I need and I worry about my bones.
2)I am totally addicted to pop (pepsi or coke) and will drink it any chance I get. I drink as much pop as I should milk, but I just can't stop drinking it - I can last about 2-3 days without it and I get serious cravings.
3)I very often skip meals or don't bother to eat. I don't get hungry a lot and when I do I eat a lot and then I feel sick and my stomach gets sharp pains.
4)I don't have an exercise routine. Sometimes I will do some sit-ups/leg raises, etc. for 15 minutes but not very often.
5)I like to snack -when i'm reading or watching movies, etc.-even if i'm not hungry.

I should clarify that I am not anorexic or bulemic. I am not skinny as a toothpick, and I am far far from fat. I am slender yet I do have a small gut. I know that if I don't start getting the nutrition and exercise that my body needs it will affect me drastically in my future, but I just can't seem to do it for a long period of time. I lack self-control and motivation. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me based on the above. Thank you so much. Sorry this is so long!

Answer
Robyn if I had the power in an e-mail to make you motivate yourself, eat properly, and exercise daily, I'd be a pretty powerful person. Anyway, you sound like a smart girl who is really negative about herself. My suggestion is write down your goals. Next write down the steps to achieve the goals. Third everyday when you wake up, ask yourself what little thing will I do today to help reach my goals. Example would be: to get the daily calcium you need you have to eat or drink 3-4 servings of dairy or you have to take a Tums supplement. I choose the supplement. So to reach the goal you know you have to purchase the dairy foods and have them available and daily you split the servings throughout the day-everyday. Same with the Tums supplement. Buy it and take it. Try to get 1000-1500 mg of calcium per day so read the label. Exercise-same thing. You should strive for 30 minutes of walking or other exercise per day. Split up 10 minutes of walking in the am, noon, and evening. That's not hard. So again, don't be so negative. You and only you are master of yourself so take charge and just do it. You will see, it will start to happen. Good luck, hope I helped. Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
