Whey ProteinSweetened w/fructose

Question
Hi,
Because of the time demands of life I decided to try some whey protein, in hopes of not feeling hungry all the time.
53, excellent health, all the tests to prove it, lifetime good workout and nutrition habits.
I picked up some "BIOCHEM, Ultimate LO Carb Whey Powder" in the "Health Section" of the local grocery.  In my haste I didn't notice that it was sweetened with fructose.  It says nothing about HFCS.
Ingredients = Ultra-Filtered/Micro-filtered (UF/MF) whey protein isolate, fructose, natural creme brulee flavor, xanthan gum.
I avoid sugar like the plague, except in fruit etc.  Is fructose total garbage to be avoided?  Or is the HFCS the real bad guy?
Per serving this stuff has 4g carbs and the same with sugar.
Why this wimpy country must sweeten everything is beyond me.  Well, not actually!  Doctors and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Answer
Hello George!

Thank you for your nutrition question. Fructose is sweeter than glucose, which is one of the reasons why fructose is used in so many food products today. However, fructose is not converted to energy as efficiently as glucose; its slower metabolism means it raises blood sugar levels more gradually than glucose. For this reason it is a slightly better choice then regular sugar.  Hope this helps.
Great question!

-George
