protein v. sugar

Question
I read that excess refined sugar is converted to fat, and increases bodyfat. But what about

1. sugar from fruits
2. other carbohydrates
3. protein

Are these 3 things not converted to fat? Are they just used as energy, or stored as carbs/protein? Will they not increase bodyfat like refined sugars do?

Thanks.

Answer
Hello Will!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Sugar from fruit, carbohydrates, and protein can all be converted into fat if we are not physically active.  When we take in too much of any food and do not perform enough physical activity it will eventually be stored as fat.  It is the body's job to store whatever is not used.
Hope this helps
