Husbands Weight Loss

Question
My husband, age 46, weighs about 200 lbs and has always struggled with his weight.  He knows he needs to lose weight and has even been told by his doctor, yet nothing will get him motivated to start eating beter and exercising.  It is a very sensitive issue and I try to voice my concerns about his weight without being mean, nagging, etc. but to no avail.  I feel like all I'm doing now is just waiting for him to pass out from a heart attack someday.  What can I do short of threatening him to get him to wake up and get in shape?

Answer
God bless you for being so caring and loving! You have a very lucky husband and he must be very special himself to deserve you!
You can change his eating habits by changing just a few little things in lifestyle habits you are both surely in (we all are creatures of habit). Few guys will push away something put in front of them, especially when no big deal is made over it and it's something you both share. So, take the time in the a.m. to have a bowl of oatmeal (those little flavored packets are wonderful, take about 1 minute in the microwave and are EXCELLENT whole grain sources). Or a bowl of Life, Cheerios, toasted oat flakes, whatever has "whole grain" in the first two ingredients on the side of the box.
If you use milk, opt for low fat or try mixing some vanilla nonfat soy milk (half 'n half) with whatever milk you like, eventually making it more and more soy until...

If you purge the house of the 'bad' things he munches on (yup, that means you miss out too), you'll have to go out to get the treats. There's a nice walk, since gas prices are so high right? Or at least it's an effort - and a little more expense - so curbing the ice cream (or whatever) is easier and easier.
Have you got a dog? Telling him how the dog's life is in jeopardy for being overweight might motivate him to extend the walks a bit more.  Don't have a dog? Well then, YOU need to start walking, just 15 minutes a day ("c'mon, let's get it over with honey!") because (pick one: 'my knees hurt lately', 'I'm having trouble breathing and think I'm out of shape', 'It helps me sleep better', etc). You can't go alone...not these days!
It's just 15 minutes. Who hasn't got 15 minutes?  Go ahead and time it...walk for 7 minutes in one direction and turn around.

You can easily replace ground beef with low fat ground turkey in most recipes and no one will EVER know (especially if you add a pinch of ground cumin which lends to a 'beefy' or 'pork' like taste).

Sneak the changes in. Once he sees a weight difference and feels a little better, he might actually start LIKING it!
The breakfast part, that's a big part of it, probably the most important part.
