What is best way to lose weight

Question
I am 49 years old,5 ft 5 1/2 inches tall, 250 lbs, have a sedentary job. Started gaining weight at 25 after my divorce although that is no excuse since I have been happily married for 20 years and I still gained during that time :-)

The one time I losts weight was on W/W.
At that time we had W/W come to our office once a week and we were all supportive of each other so it really helped. Interest was lost and I tried going to meetings but it wasn't the same and I gave up.

I am trying again to lose but it is like I lost all will power. My worse time is after dinner until bedtime. The worse time to overeat. Any suggestions?

Also, would it help if I went to a nutritionist? What exactly would a nutritionist do and besides telling you what you should/shouldn't eat will they help you with weight loss and how? I live in NJ how would I go about finding a good nutritionist if that is the best route or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Answer
YES, you should definitely seek out a dietitian to work with.  A dietitian could work with you to develop a meal plan that is both effective, realistic and healthy.  A dietitian works with you on lifestyle changes, goals and problems.  He/she can help support, educate and encourage you.  Dietitians are the the experts in this area and the person to go to.
You can go to www.eatright.org.  On the main page, at the bottom of the left hand column, you will see a small box that says, "Find a Nutrition Professional".  Just plug in your zip code and you will find a list of dietitians in your area and their specialties.
As far as overeating after dinner, make it a RULE NOT to eat after a certain time.  If you can stick with it, it can really help you keep from eating at a time that is a problem for you.  Get in the habit INSTEAD of walking at night, reading, or doing something else you enjoy.  I bet if you take a nice brisk walk in the evening it might really help curb those cravings to eat at night.
Good luck with your weight loss!!
