Fish and milk

Question
Hello Susan,

My mom says that eating fish and milk together is harmful.  Is this true?  I know cats cannot eat fish and milk.

Thanks,
Yasir

Answer
Hello Yasir,

First time I've heard of this one, and I have had many cats.

Basically, I promote not mixing carbohydrates with protein. Sure, a few foods contain both naturally, like legumes (which are not easy to digest) but meat and potatoes, pastrami on rye, chicken on rice give you stuff that wastes a lot of your energy trying to process and not effective fuel. And a lot of heartburn and overeating.

Okay, milk and fish are both "protien", however, I have a lot of issues with milk. The stuff on the store shelves is in a form that actually pulls calcium from your body not ad to it. There is no good reason for a human to be drinking cow's milk past the age of 2. Got milk? You got bone loss. Countries that consume the most dairy products have the most osteoporosis, countries that use the least dairy have the least osteroporosis. Dairy is a political lobby group more than a food group.

Here's a guide to seafood, what is safe to eat (avoid too much mercury, etc.) and good for the planet.
