Do I need to eat more?

Question
Hi

I have been struggling to lose weight for about 5 years now.
When I was a sophmore in college, I lost about 20 pounds in
2 months from beginning a running program. It was unbelievable.
The weight just fell off. I had never ran before, and I just couldn't
believe how quickly I began to lose weight. I got down to about 125 pounds, from an initial 145 beginning weight. I was just so thrilled. I kept the weight off for about 3 years. I continued to run, and I began to eat only around 800-1,000 calories a day. I even lost a little bit more, due to dieting. However when I turned 25, I noticed that I started gaining. Now I am 30, and am basically back to my 145 pound weight. I am still exercising alot, and still only eat about 1,000 calories a day, but am struggling to lose this stubborn weight. I can't believe it.
I have been to nutritionists, and they seem to think that I have slowed my metabolism, due to the extreme dieting. However, I can't seem to make myself eat more that 1,000 cals a day. I feel guilty if I do, and feel like I will just get heavier and heavier. I have gotten bored with running too. I don't feel like it has the same fat burning effect, it had on me when I first started running. I try to go to the gym and do different things, but nothing will take this weight off. No exercise has given me the results, like running did, when I first started running. Does anyone out there have any advice that will help me get back down to my 125 pound goal weight. What other exercises can I do, to blast this weight off, like running did for me originally? Should I be eating more?

Also, I have a few drinks on the weekends and I know that this can be preventing me from losing weight. I try to drink light drinks, like vodka sodas and I always try to work out the following day. However, can a couple of drinks totally be ruining my figure?

Thank you so much

Answer
Here's the statistics that you're learning first hand:
More than 90% of ALL diets will result in the re-gaining of ALL the weight within 1-2 years of going off it; PLUS 20% more weight. So, someone at 150 lbs who loses 30 lbs, can expect to weigh 156 lbs as a result of all that effort and sacrifice. On top of this, future weight loss will be slower and more difficult.
Big surprise huh?  It's awful that we don't believe these things until they actually happen to us. We always think we'll be the 'exception'.  And then we'll win the lottery or something right?
YES, by increasing your daily intake you will likely flip the biologically instinctive switch that's got you on "low speed" right now and with something as simple as WALKING for 15 minutes a day, you can lose your weight inside of a few months. Better still? NO DIET!!!!  So, you'll keep the weight off without even trying.

I struggled, just like you, for more than 30 years! Doing the same thing you're doing. I found a gym membership worked like a miracle, just like your running did, but we don't often get to repeat that initial weight loss ('cause we'll never be that age again either).
Then, by quitting the diets and the products and the starving - by ADDING things like breakfast (the most difficult part for me), peanut butter (not difficult at all!) and pizza, pasta, chocolate (getting easier all the time huh?)...I dropped ALL the weight I ever, in all those years, needed or wanted to lose!
That was over 6 years ago and I'm still there!

I've outlined the specifics on my site and there's lots more about dieting (and why it's BAD) and eating disorders and all that garbage the industry tries to push as a magic fix.  I don't sell anything, no promotions, no signing in.
No ulterior motives.

Let me know how you do and if you have any questions - I'll be there for you, all the way !
