Question
Hi...thank you for your time. I am very interested in hearing your reply to my questions regarding healthy eating & vitamins. My boyfriend & i would like to begin better eating habits. What foods should be avoided and what are the best foods for loosing weight? What foods can be eaten in abundance without concern? i drink only soymilk, tho he prefers vit d. I drink bottled or Britta water. His water intake is minimal. I tell him he should drink more water & less bottled tea(with sugar :( )
what meats are best & what should be avoided?
also, what vits & amount should we be taking daily - im 50 & hes 54. We take vit c & also cal/mag/zinc. i plan to also take a calcium tablet. What amount & type do you recommend for my age? I heard Omega 3,6 or 9 is needed. What kind do you recommend? What brand of vits on the market are best? Should we also be taking Vit E & zinc?
what vits do you recommend for us?
thank you & have a nice day.  :)

Answer
Hello Ruthel!

Thank you for your nutrition question. It's nice to hear from you.  Foods to be avoided when trying to lose weight are fried foods, cheeses, high calorie/high fat foods, and sugar.  However, foods to eat for weight loss are foods which contain fiber because they help you feel food.  They include "whole" grains, fruit, vegetables, beans, and nuts. Vegetables can be eaten in abundance!
You can actually design a weight loss plan at www.mypyramid.gov.  Just enter your information and it will design a diet specificaly for you.  Remember to subtract 500 calories daily from your diet in order to lose 1 pound per week.  Walking daily for 30-60 minutes is a great way to burn calories.
As for supplements, I don't really recommend vitamins because they are poorly absorbed by the body.  It is much better to get them from foods.  However I do recommend a Juice Plus+ which is whole food based nutrition.  It is made from fresh fruits and vegetables in capsule form. It is available at my website http://www.juiceblend.com  Let me know what you think and if you have more questions.
