Question
I am not a big drinker, and occasionally like 2-3 times a year, do i drink any kind of alcohol. My question is, while you are dieting is it okay to drink wine coolers and champagne, like non-alcoholic champagne or sparkling champagne?

Answer
Hello Andrea!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Alcohol is almost as high in calories as fat. Pure alcohol has 7 calories per gram (fat has 9 calories per gram). Alcohol suppresses the bodies ability to burn fat, so if you are trying to lose fat, consuming alcohol is counter-productive. If you drink, drink in moderation and aim for a light beer, small glass of red wine or non alcoholic drinks.
Since you are trying to lead a healthier lifestyle I would also recommend a whole food nutrition supplement called Juice Plus which is made from fresh fruits and vegetables.  It can help your body burn calories more efficiently.  Many of my patients have had great success on it.  The website to purchase it is http://www.juiceblend.com  Let me know if you have more great questions!
