LDL

Question
My husband had an LDL (or the bad cholesterol) level of 115.  Is this high?

Answer
Michelle,

The answer depends on your husbands risk for cardiovascular disease.  If he is at 搈oderate?risk, then an LDL of 115 is fine.  If he is at 揾igh?risk, then his LDL should be below 100.

A person is at 揾igh?risk of cardiovascular disease (or complications of cardiovascular disease) if they have ANY ONE of the following:

1.  Documented cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, angioplasty, bypass, angina, peripheral vascular disease, claudication, carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, etc.)
2.  Diabetes
3.  OR, if your 10-year risk of CHD greater than 20%.  Go here to calculate your 10-year risk:

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.  You can also get a lot of information at my website ?www.lipid-clinic.com

Best wishes.

Todd
