overly muscular

Question
Hi Karen
I am a girl who is extremely muscular in my arms, i don't lift weights or anything, but my arms are just muscular. I want to reduce the amount of muscle i have there, would being a vegeterian help be do so? Do you have any other ideas? thank you.

Answer
Hi Linda,

I would not recommend trying to reduce your muscle mass. Lean muscle mass is a good thing - it burns up calories (helping to keep you from putting on too much body fat) and it is also important for your physical strength and functioning in daily activities.

What you can do is to *reshape* your muscles so they are sleeker and more attractive. Yoga is an excellent activity for this. Lifting weights, although it might seem counterintuitive, can actually help you develop nicely shaped, sleek arms as well (women do not have enough testosterone to develop bulky muscles from lifting weights). Check out _Weight Training for Dummies_ by Liz Neporent and Suzanne Schlosberg or _The Great Dumbbell Handbook_ for some arm-sculpting moves. You might also want to seek the advise of a personal trainer to help you develop an effective program.

Oh, and becoming vegetarian would not reduce your muscle mass either!

Hope that helps.

Karen
