Gatorade

Question
Hi!

I drink about 60 fluid ounces of gatorade a day. I have an office job, so it is what I sip on all day.

Is it unhealthy to drink that much gatorade a day?  Someone told me all the sodium in it is unhealthy to drink unless you need to replenish you body. Not to mention there is a bit of sugar in it as well.

Should I switch to water all the way, or is it ok if I continue drinking that much gatorade?(which is what I prefer to do)

Answer
Hello Travis!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Gatorade is a little high in sodium and also has calories from sugar which can add up over a period of time if you are not active. Gatorade is generally suggested for those that are involved in sports or participating in heavy activity for a long period of time. The point of Gatorade is that it provides energy for the athlete.  If you are not being active, and simply drinking Gatorade, it probably isn't the best choice.
However, there are alot of other healthy alternatives such as ice tea, crystal light, and water with a slice of lemon in it.   On my website there is a low calorie drink called Xango which is made from a variety of fruits.
