Cheez-its!

Question
Hi George-

OK, so yesterday was a hectic day for me, so I was only able to snack throughout the day, and was unable to eat a real meal. By the end of the day, I realized the only thing I had eaten, was an entire box of Cheez-its! Gross, yes I know, but since the crackers were the only thing that I ate, I was wondering, if in terms of fat intake for a day, or calorie intake for a day, how bad for my body was my Cheez-it Diet?
I know that I couln't have a diet consisting only of Cheez-its, but should I feel guilty about the calories and fat I ate? When I multiply the precentage of daily requirement of fat by the number of servings, I roughly get 100% of my fat intake for a day. So if all I ate was the 100% of fat intake, does that mean that I didn't take in too much fat for the entire day? Like I said, I know it was an unhealthy day for me, but I just wonder if I didn't actually gourge on fat yesterday since all I really got was my 100% daily requirement. Does that question make sense? I hope so. Thank you!
-Travis

Answer
Hello Travis!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Cheez-its are currently a food that is very high in fat which can raise your LDL(Bad fat) levels in your blood if you eat too many.
Having a high LDL can eventually lead to heart disease. You can still eat them but just keep it in moderation.  We should never totally give up the foods we enjoy eating because that leads to feeling of guilt. One recommendation I would give is instead of having a big box of them around the house keep a small bag.  This way if you get the urge you do not eat as many and you still get to enjoy them.
You should never get your entire intake (100%) of your fat intake in one meal.  It should be spread out throughout your day.  Another good idea is to get healthier fats into your eating plan such as almonds, walnuts and peanuts.  They contain "good" fat which helps to eliminate the the "bad" fat and keep your cholesterol at healthy levels. A handful of almonds daily has many health benefits such helping to lower bad cholesterol.  Hope this helps!
