Food Intake and Climatic Factors

Question
Hi !
I am a Student of Nutrition and Dietics and I recently came across something in my textbook that said Climatic Factors  affect the food intake of an individual. The appetite is at low levels during summer months and higher during the winter months, and fluid intake is higher during summer than in winter. I would like to know why does appetite fluctuate with variation in climatic factors. I would also appreciate if you would explain what satiety value of a meal is ?
My sincerest apologies for any kind of inconveninece caused. A quick response would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
As far as climatic factors I don't know the exact science behind it but I would venture to guess there are a lot of factors that effect it.  During the summer we are busier with much more to do so we are not sitting in the house bored and wanting to eat as we might be in the winter.  When you think about it, when you get overheated the last thing you want to do is eat but you do want to drink something.  Again, not sure of the science behind it.  I would look to see if your textbook explains it further or if your professor has an answer.
Not sure what you mean by "satiety value" so I will venture a guess that what the meal is made up of will predict how satisfied it will make you.  A meal that includes fiber, complex carbs and protein will last you much longer than a meal made up of refined carbs, sugar, high fat and little to no fiber.
Good luck with your studies!
