when it comes to servings...

Question
when it comes to servings ot anything on the food pyramid, is it a matter of getting all those little servings in different meals (like literally 3-4 small servings of fruit per day) or can you just get two big servings that make up the same amount in total serving size?

so to illustrate-i eat 3-4 small servings a day of fruit v.s. 2 decent sized servings of fruit.  given that i get the same amount of fruit in each day, does it matter if i do it two large servings or 3-4 small ones?

Answer
Hi Jeff,

A single "serving" of fruit or vegetables according to the food pyramid is 1/2 cup, or 1 medium fruit or vegetable. It doesn't matter at all how you space it out throughout the day. For example if you had 1 cup of cooked carrots, 1/2 cup of cooked peas and 1 pear all at dinner, that would count as 3 servings total of vegetables and 1 of fruit. Of course, it's ideal if you eat a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables rather than large amounts of only one or two varieties, but as for when you eat them during the day, it's entirely up to you!

Hope that helps!
