High protein foods

Question
Hi Karen,
I am a semi-vegetarian ( I eat fish and chicken.)
Could you tell me some high protein foods? I drink a protein shake each day, but feel I still need more protein.
Thanks!
Kelly

Answer
Hi Kelly,

Besides chicken and fish, other good high-protein foods include:

-eggs
-legumes (e.g. chickpeas, black beans, lentils, split peas)
-nuts, seeds, and nut butters (e.g. peanut or almond butter)
-tofu
-veggie "meats" like veggie burgers and dogs, soy deli slices, etc.

You should have 2-3 servings of these foods every day.

Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt) are also a source of protein (not as protein rich as the other foods listed above, and don't contain the same minerals like zinc, iron etc). Having 2-3 servings per day of dairy will help you meet your protein needs as well. You can substitute soymilk for cow's milk if you don't eat dairy products.

Hope that helps!
