Dried figs - are they fattening

Question
Hello,

Fifty percent of my diet consists of a muesli mix that I make.  It includes: muesli with 50% fruit and nut, bran, unsalted peanuts, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, and plentiful dried figs.  I use skim milk.  I really enjoy this mix and generally, rather than make a sandwich I have a small bowl of muesli.  Is this ok or am I overdoing it?

I love to eat dried figs, about 10 to 20 per day, usually included in my muesli mix - plus snacks.  Could this be what is causing me to gradually put on weight?

In advance I thank you for your advice.

Sonja

Answer
Hello Sonja!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Your muesli mix sounds very healthy and an excellent source of healthy fats.  You may be consuming too many figs which could cause some weight gain.  Try sticking with no more then 5-7 figs daily.  Dried figs tend to be higher in sugar.
