Question
I am 35 years old, 5'9" and weigh 172#.  I would like to get around 145#.  What should my daily calorie intake be, I am trying to lose 2# a week.  I do at least 30 min each day of exercise.

Answer
Hello Natalie!

Thank you for your nutrition question.  Based on the information you have given me, your daily intake to maintain your current weight is 2,125 calories. However, in order to lose 1 pound per week you need to subtract 500 calories from this number daily which is about 1,600 calories.  In order to lose 2lbs a week it would be 1,200 calories daily.
I would recommend visiting www.mypyramid.gov where you can create an eating plan designed for your calorie needs. It also has a food tracker where you can record everything you eat in order to see if you are on the right track to weight loss.  Wishing you the best!!
