Monopause, illness, and weight loss

Question
Hi Susan, thank you in advance.  I have Graves Disease which has been brough under control with Radio-iodine, Thyroid eye disease, which is currently active, and seriously inhibiting my ability to actively exercise, in that I cannot leave my home right now due to extremely sensitive eyes.  To add to the melting pot.  I now am in menopause and being treated with hormones, to control brutal hot flashes.  My weight was doing so well, but in these last 2 years with these illnesses, my weight is creeping up.  I have gained 45 pounds in this time and I am NOT happy with myself at all.  Any suggestions you can give me towards good sensible information regarding nutrition for someone who is in menopause, etc, would be greatly appreciated.  I do not have any real hangups or problems with food, and I stay away from simple carbs, and most fats.  Quite frankly, I am surprised to find this weight gain, as I have never been a fan of anything other than home cooked healthy foods.
Again thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Cindy,

You have a lot of stuff to deal with! All of which can lower metabolism.

I hope your idea of healthy food means NO refined sugar, no refined flour. see more on Real Food at http://www.premiumfuel.com

Exercise: a TOTAL 30 minutes a day of breathing hard; dance, lay on your stomach and pretend to swim, lay on your back and bicycle, do it 3 x 10 minutes, 6 x 5 minutes, you get the idea.

Once a week, you do slow motion, non-stop resistance training to build muscles. 1 exercise per each of your 6 muscle groups. Example is try 5 situps that take a minute to do.

Moving your body, have some fun with it helps a lot in a lot of ways.
