Six pack through weight watchers?

Question
Hi George! Thanks for the reply. The information was helpful however not exactly what I was asking.

I have done many of those exercises in the past I possess a six pack underneath a small layer of fat because I can feel it and I can see the top part becoming visible. However I know that in order for the rest to become visible that fat needs to be eradicated.

However I have gotten mixed reviews from people I know and online sources as to how to acheive my goal.

However I am hoping that all I need to do now (after all of my toning) is to reduce my overall body fat. However do I also need to "elminate white bread, loads of pasta, soda, candy, fast food, hydronated oils, sugars and fructose corn syrup. Instead, replace them with foods that will help you reach your goal: olive oil, whole grain breads, fruits, vegetables, nuts, peanut butter, chicken, fish, protein and water."?
OOOR can I continue with my weight watchers plan (where foods are not restricted as long as you do portion control), a plan in which I have already lost 60 pounds off of?

I would prefer the latter, considering that weight watchers is such a safe and sensible diet but I AM prepared to make the sacrifice if this is only possible through the first.
I would love your feedback considering your obvious expertise on the subject.

Thanks again George!

Question -
I've been working on my abs. Some say that abs are determined by
reducing overall body fat percentage, and others say its "what you
eat".

I lost over 60 pounds with Weight Watchers and I love the diet. But I
REALLY want my six pack. I know I should drop maybe another ten pounds
or so, but I've been wondering now, can I still reduce my body fat and
get my six packs through weight watchers? Or do I need to eat/cut out
certain foods in order for that to happen AT ALL?

Hello Chris!

Thank you for your question.  Abs or the abdominal wall is made up of clusters of muscles separated by connective tissue. Ab exercises strengthen those clusters and burn off the surrounding fat, in extremely fit individuals causing the clusters to become visible, resulting in the ridges or washboard abs. Your abs are a major component of your core and contribute heavily to many athletic activities such as swinging a golf club, tennis racket or baseball bat as well as being important to good posture.

The abdominal wall literally holds your stomach and other internals in. A weakened abdominal wall will be pushed out, causing a pot-belly look. Strengthening the abdominal muscles and focussing on correct posture can vastly improve your body's shape.

I recommend lying leg lifts for tighter abs because they can be very effective. Lying leg lifts are a relatively easy ab exercise which emphasizes your lower abs.
The technique:
Lie on your back and place both hands palms down under your buttocks. Bend your knees slightly.
Raise your legs until your heels are about off the floor. Keep your lower back against the floor, mat or other support.
Hold for a few seconds, or, for a more intense lower ab workout, focus on your abs and raise your heels another six inches and hold for a few seconds. Slowly lower your legs until the back of your foot is just off the ground. Do not allow your feet to touch the ground.
Repeat.
The ideal number of reps depends on your fitness level and fitness goals. As a general rule, if you can do twenty repetitions without stopping, do sets of twenty. If your abs do not feel worked even doing twenty reps, move on to a more intense workout.

If you feel pain in your lower back or that there is extra stress being placed on your lower back, bend your knees more and make sure your back is firmly against a solid surface. If leg lifts are still painful or you feel like you are stressing your lower back, discontinue leg lefts and replace with a different exercise.

Answer
Dear Chris,

If you feel comfortable with Weight Watchers helping you eat right then it would be a good idea to stick with it. The nice thing about weight watchers is that you get alot of moral support from other members who have similar goals to yours.  It sounds like you have a good idea of what foods you should be eating from your prior email. Avoid food that are fried, high in sugar, and overly processed. If you stick with eating a diet that contains fresh whole foods you should be able to achieve your goals!
