The Body and Weight Gain

Question
I am 18 years old, 5'5", and weigh 93 pounds. I need to gain a little weight (maybe 10-15 pounds). How can I do it healthfully and safely? And my main question is... When the body gains weight, how will the body know when to stop gaining the weight. How do you maintain the proper weight? Please Help!

Answer
Kylee,
You gain weight and maintain weight by the calories you consume.  You may need more calories right now while you are gaining weight and when you get to a healthy weight you will need to lower the calories just a bit to maintain your weight.  You don't need to count calories!  You just need to eat healthy and if you need to gain just eat a little more of it and when you need to maintain just eat a little less.  Even though you need to gain you still need to eat HEALTHY and get plenty of exercise.  That is important for good health and good habits throughout life!  You can check out www.mypyramid.gov for info on healthy eating.
