Hello Jenna,

Thank you for your nutrition question.  I don't recommend the cabbage soup diet because you will not be able to stay with this type of eating permanently. Weight loss is a lifestyle change. I would recommend checking out www.mypyramid.gov where you can create a healthy eating plan tailored to your calorie needs. Simply enter your age, gender, and activity level and it will give you a complete weight loss menu.

Dear Jenna,

You can lose probably lose anywhere from 5-7 pounds  with the cabbage soup diet however, the weight will probably be regained once you have stopped being on the diet.  Some people find the soup bland. Some people have reported feeling light-headed, weak, and have suffered from decreased concentration.  It is much better to lose weight slow and steady for it to stay off.

Dear Jenna,

I don't recommend starving yourself but I do recommend staying active for 30-60 minutes daily. Walking daily for 30 minutes is a great way to burn off calories.
I would also recommend eating small frequent meals throughout your day. In other words, spread out your calorie intake. Eat 3 small meals with 2 healthy snacks in between such as yogurt or a handful of mixed nuts.  Most women can lose weight at 1,600 calories daily.
I also recommend eating foods that are higher in fiber. You need 25 grams daily to help with weight loss. Choose foods such as rasberries, oatmeal, beans, fruits and vegetables. Keep those questions coming!

Answer
Dear Jenna,

You are eating way too few calories which is why your metabolism is slowing down making weight loss impossible. You need to actually increase the amount you eat to at least 1,200 calories daily.  This will kickstart your metabolism along with light weight training. Remember to never skip meals especially breakfast.
I would recommend checking out my book: Ask the Nutritionsits by George Rapitis. Get it online at www.authorhouse.com or any bookstore.
