Anabolic Diets

Question
Hello,
I have been reading about losing body fat and working out. I ran across the Anabolic Diet where you shift your body from burning carbs for energy to burning fat for energy. It says that you should carb load on the weekends with almost none during the week. Is this healthy and what is your opinion on this type of eating habit.

Answer
Lacey,

Can you say, "FAD DIET"?

This is a diet plan used by some body builders to shed body fat, temporarily.  When the diet stops (because you cannot keep it up, it is unbalanced and unhealthy) you put the body fat back on.

This is obviously not a diet that a person is supposed to stay on for a long time.  This means that when you stop the diet - you what?  You gain the weight back. That's a stupid way to go on a "diet".

Pick a diet plan that you can continue, that you can sustain so you can keep the weight off, keep the body fat off.

I suggest you read the "No Fad Diet" by the American Heart Association.

Hang in there.

Todd
