Dear Rev. Abbott,
I've been a lacto-vegetarian for three years and everything was great. However, I've been stressed for the past few months and I was binging a lot leading me to gain 20 pounds in two months!!! I tried stopping everything to stop the binging but I could not do it. I tried eating less but my stomach starts to hurt (hunger prangs). It was because I ate a lot for the last few months (4000 calories/day) that my stomach expanded and I don't know how to shrink it. It's really aggrevating. Should I use diet pills? My cravings drive me crazy and I'm sick of eating. If I don't eat, my cravings always get the best of me. I don't know how to control my hungery anymore. Can you give me some advice before I consult a doctor? I've lost weight in the past on my own and I believe that I can do it again given the right advice. Thanks!

-----Answer-----
When you say lacto-vegetarian, are you talking about eating mostly bread, rice and pastas? Many people think that vegetarian just means no meat.

Actually, most of a vegetarian's diet is vegetables and legumes. Carbs are the least part. 4,000 calories in a day from vegetables and fruits is a tremendous amount of consumption, so I'm betting that lots of your overeating is carb related.

Diet pills, programs, powders, shakes, plans and potions do NOT work.

For the best way to beat the weight problem, it's a matter of eating. Regularly and rightly.

I've outlined it here (NO diet, no sales, no promotions and all free)

It will work. Just be patient and stay smart.

Answer
It's not "a website" it's the advice you're asking for. I put my whole heart into providing the specific outline of foods to choose and how to make a new lifestyle rather than diet or do gimmicks.

It's what I came up with after a lifetime of diets, eating disorders and trying everything - without lasting success.
It's what came from my education in nutrition and work with doctors, groups and individuals.

It's not just "a website". It sells and promotes nothing - every bit of advice and information is free and for real. And there's no way the answer to your question will fit here at 'all experts'.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you nothing but the best.  Good luck.
